The Odyssey of King David

David's story leads us directly to the story of Christ.

The Church’s One Foundation Is Jesus Christ Her Lord!”

Dear Friends,

Welcome to The Church’s One Foundation. Our podcast today is atypical in nature, as I’m forgoing my usual essay/homily to request your participation in my latest creative adventure.

A few weeks ago, I downloaded a brief, audio excerpt from the one-person play I’ve been working on since 2023, which, at the time, was titled, When Kings Go Out To Battle, drawn heavily from the book I co-authored with Dr. Sam Mayhugh in 2020—The Odyssey of King David. After consulting with my good friend and colleague, “Dr. Sam,” I’m changing the title of the play to The Odyssey of King David, building upon the success and name recognition of the book, which is still available on Amazon and other outlets.

This past July 4 weekend, I officially launched a fundraising campaign for the play on “GoFundMe,” one of the most recognized and secure crowdfunding platforms in the world. Crowdfunding is how the “Chosen” was launched, and what a success that has been. Several of you have already received the letter below with a link that leads to more information on the project, including simple directions on how to donate. Shamelessly, I’m using this week’s podcast as an opportunity for all of our subscribers to participate in this powerful, new drama. Doing a show on King David has been a dream of mine for years. More than most of my “tent-making” projects for film and theatre, this one is close to my heart, as King David’s story (both genealogically and thematically) leads us directly to the story of Christ.

I hope you’ll take a few moments to read the brief letter below and then open the link and respond however you feel led. Currently, The House of David television series on Amazon Prime is among one of their most popular shows. The appetite is there, and my goal is clear: To offer the finest theatrical show on King David we possibly can. This will be the sixth one-person show I’ve produced, performed, written or directed. It may well be my last, although I said that about the previous one! On this exciting creative journey, your payers and support are deeply appreciated.

As you consider your participation, know we will be back in two weeks with our normal essay/homily. And as it has been for over two years, The Church’s One Foundation will continue to be free for ALL subscribers. And, as always,

I am grateful for You!

D. Paul

And in way of a PS: May our prayers continue for the family and friends of the flood victims in Texas. Amen

HERE IS ONE OF THE MOST RECENT LETTERS TO GO OUT:

Dear Friends,

I trust you and yours are well and that you had a joyous 4th. of July celebration.

I'm excited to share with you my journey of creating The Odyssey of King David, a one-person play that dives deep into the life of the iconic King of Israel.

This project reflects my passion for storytelling (writing and acting) and my desire to present King David in all his complexities—his triumphs and failures, doubts and faith. Your support can help make this dream a reality, enabling me to finalize the script, commit the thirty-page text to memory for staged performances, and produce a professional audio version, which we’ll distribute on Amazon, etc., and use to engage world-class actors in regional performances, including NYC and London.

Whether you can contribute $5 or $5,000, every dollar counts towards my $15,000 goal, allowing me to bring this powerful narrative to life. I can't express how much your encouragement would mean to me. Open the link below to find more information on the project and how you can donate.

And a huge “Thank You,” in advance, my brothers and sisters, for anything you may feel prompted to do. I’ll be sending out periodic updates as the GoFundMe campaign proceeds.

Stay safe and strong. I’m grateful that you’re in my life!

Pressing On,

D. Paul
